The analysis of the magmatic distribution, basin formation, tectonic evolution andstructural styles of different segments of the Andes shows that most of the Andes had experienced a stage of flat subduction, besides the three present flat slab subduction segments. Based on the present characteristics of the Pampean flat slab, combined with the Peruvian and Bucaramanga segments, a pattern of geological processes can be identified. That pattern permits to recognize and confirm past subhorizontal subduction zones through the Andes during Cenozoic times.
