Resumen:
The rock avalanche that dammed the Laguna Baya was formed in the last 40-50 years as the result of slope instability processes in the Guanaco headquarters, an affluent of the Pehuenche and Grande rivers in the Southern Mendoza Province. This age is determined by comparing photograms taken in the 60´s with recently released TM images. This rock avalanche deposit constitutes the first historical occurrence in the Argentinian Andes.
