Resumen:
In this chapter a critical state is reached along a path without large displacements. This occurs because an initial path crosses a new one, called a secondary path. The study of critical points using bifurcation theory for systems specified by a finite number of generalized coordinates is presented using the V-formulation originally developed by Thompson. This choice allows to treat the secondary (post-bucling) path in a form amenable for a finite element formulation.A detailed formulation is presented to obtain the critical point and the asymptotic derivatives of the secondary path. Also sensitivity to geometrical and load imperfections is developed. Finally some examples are shown.
