Latin America Situation 85% of Latin America population (around 500 million inhabitants) is provided with drinking water services either by direct domiciliary connection or easy access to a public source. ? 37 million inhabitants in urban areas as well as 66 million inhabitants in rural areas lack sewerage basic systems. ? 13.7% of the domestic effluents from 241 million inhabitants whose houses are connected to the sewerage system, don´t receive any kind of treatment. ? In other words, the water bodies in the region receive the crude wastewater from 208 million inhabitants.
