Resumen:
Carbohydrate composition and the electrophoretic pattern of soluble proteins from Ascodesmis nigricans and A. sphaerospora were analyzed. Glycogen-like glucans were characterized as storage polysaccharides in both species. However, a differential behavior was observed in the iodine reactions. Chitin accounted for 19% of the alkyli-insoluble material in A. nigricans and for 5.7% in A. sphaerospora. ¦Â-(1 ¨¤ 3)-glucans were characterized as cell-wall components. Although some qualitative and quantitative differences were observed in the electrophoretic patterns, both were very similar, corroborating morphological Studies that consider A. nigricans and A. sphaerospora as closely related taxa.
