The changes produced by industrial sewage destroyed the aquatic community and altered the natural physical and chemical properties of the water used for irrigation. According to biological, chemical data and international classification the Calimayo stream “is highly polluted and almost without life”. The high value of salinity and especially the presence of a high content of sodium in the effluents was considered as potencially dangerous if this water would be used for irrigation.
