Resumen:
The theory of A-discriminants is a far going generalization of thediscriminant of a univariate polynomial, proposed in the late 80´s byGel´fand, Kapranov and Zelevinsky, who also described many of theircombinatorial properties. We present a new approach to this theoryusing tropical geometry.We tropicalize the Horn-Kapranov uniformization, which allows us todetermine invariants of A-discriminants, even if the actual equationsare too hard to be computed.The talk will include definitions and basic results about thetropicalization of algebraic varieties.Joint work with Eva Maria Feichtner and Bernd Sturmfels.
