Resumen:
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals were adopted by the United Nations (UN) to reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development. The SDGs have replaced the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) from 2016 to 2030, incorporating broader objectives (17 goals) than the MDGs (8 Goals). Broadly speaking, the SDGs goals include involving more countries -both developed and developing-, expanding sources of funding, increasing the emphasis on human rights, and strengthening the involvement of civil society with a more progressive perspective. With the inclusion of Sustainable Development Goal 11 (ODS11) and the associated targets related to urban development, the Agenda for Sustainable Development, and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have for the first time introduced a goal focusing on urban areas and housing to the international development agenda.
