Resumen:
To assess the paternal history of the Mbya-Guaraní Amerindians of Northeast Argentina, weexamined the genetic variation in 7 Y-chromosome markers: The pre Columbian transition (C toT) (M3 marker) in the DYS199 locus, and 6 short tandem repeats (DYS19, DYS389 I + II,DYS390, DYS391, and DYS393). The most striking finding is the high frequencies among theMbyá-Guaraní of the usually rare alleles DYS391*11 and DYS393*11, which could be the resultof founder effect, given the recent history of the population.
