Resumen:
In this work we present a new device specifically designed to study microbial growth. It can measure simultaneously and consistently up to16 samples (which are mixed by a circular wheel), that could be installedinside an incubator or directly in contact with natural environmental conditions. The absorbance data is acquired, processed, and exported to a PC for the generation of microbiological growth curves, and the results are available remotely via the Internet. The linear working range of the AMC-d was determined, and its reliability was tested by comparison with measurements performed in a commercial spectrophotometer. The applicability of the AMC-d was studied using two different microbialcultures which have very different generation times: Escherichia coli,a bacterium commonly used in research, and the extremophilic organismHaloferax volcanii, an halophilic archaeon.
