Nitric oxide (NO) is a signal molecule involved in plant responses to ultraviolet- B radiation (UV-B). It was also reported that NO is required for the induction of UV-B photoprotective pigments in higher plants. NO also participates in the tolerance to high UV-B exposure in Deinococcus radiodurans, an extremophile bacterium, improving its growth under this radiation.
