Resumen:
Abstract Extracts obtained from different structures of Melia azedarach L. commonly named Paraíso, have demonstrated in laboratory and field assays, to be quite effective in controlling insects of a wide variety of orders: Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, Orthoptera, Homoptera, Hemiptera, Diptera and Caelifera. Mentioned extracts exhibited a strong dissuasive effect on insect feeding, behaving as antifeedants. They have also showed a potent negative effect on survival and development of the insects as well as on oviposition and adult emergency. Results obtained in laboratory could be verified in field experiments. In the present work there is, in first place, a description of the active principles isolated till present from the extracts together with their respective bioactivities. In second term, and descript insect by insect, the controlling effects of different extracts and some pure compounds are explained in detail.
