Palynological study of Holocene marine sediments from Bahía Lapatia, Beagle Channel, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina

A Holocene terrace in Bahía Lapataia (54º 50´ S, 68º 34´ W), Beagle Channel, Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego is studied, taking into account the palynological content (sporomorphs and palaeomicroplankton). The dinoflagellate and acritarch assemblages suggest nearshore environments. Two higher relative sea level were identified: one, between 7700 ± 130 yr B.P. and 7.260 ± 70 yr B.P. and the other, from an age earlier than 7.260 ± 70 yr B.P. (? 6.000 yr B.P.). During the early - middle Holocene, the plant palaeocommunities identified indicate relatively more humid and warmer paleoclimatic conditions than in the late Pleistocene of this region.
