Resumen:
DNA methylation plays a critical role in the transcription regulation. Its increase, mainly in promoter genes regions, generates a reduction or transcription blockage in patients with different types of cancer. It has been found that some tumor suppressor genes are hypermethylated (inactive). This could be a factor leading to the progress or malignancy of this disease. In this work we propose to study the methylation profile of 4 tumor suppressor genes (CDKN2B (p15INK4b), CDKN2A (p16iNK4a), RARβ2 and SOCS1) in 30 patients with acute myeloid leukemia and chronic myeloid leukemia (16 AML and 14 CML) and in 30 controls samples by the methylation-specific PCR technique, MSP, with previous treatment of DNA with sodium bisulfite, for the conversion of unmethylated Cytosines into Uracil bases. We analyzed 25/30 patient samples and 26/30 controls. Significant correlations in patients methylation status (p
