In this work the separation and recovery of zinc from spent CaAl2O4+ZnO-catalysts used in the natural gas reforming process as sulphur trap are studied. The amount of Zn contained in these catalysts is about 60% m/m. Dry chlorination is proposed as a zinc separation method, and subsequent electrolysis of the ZnCl2 obtained, to generate: gaseous Cl2, which could be recycled to the chlorination reactor, and metallic zinc.The initial characterization of the catalyst is performed. Phase transformations and chemical reactions that take place during different thermal treatments prior to the chlorination reaction are studied. Chlorination reactions are studied in order to achieve maximum recovery of the zinc contained in the catalyst at the lowest reaction temperature. Purity of the zinc chloride obtained is analyzed and ZnCl2 electrolysis tests are performed. Deposits of Zn recovered, electric performance and amount of chlorine recycled by electrolysis, were evaluated in solutions of different ZnCl2 concentrations
