The demands and preferences of people about lighting are strongly biased by social, cultural and environmental factors. The knowledge of those indexes is important for the generation and success of proposals and methodologies for improving the rational energy consumption on lighting among the users. For instance, in Argentina recently the government launched a Program for reducing electric energy consumption. Some of the proposed measures related with residential lighting are the replacement of incandescent for compact fluorescent lamps and the modification of the local summer time. We are concerned about the way people living in our subtropical region uses lighting in their houses. At the same time we are interested to follow the demands of persons about the availability of light in the rooms as well as the degree of harms and satisfactions which bring the lit spaces1). A specific study is performed at a rural community since 2007 2). This paper deals on these aspects describing and discussing the results obtained from the inhabitants at urban and rural areas involved in the mentioned studies. The research includes preliminary evaluations of the exchange lamps campaign.
