Resumen:
Glare sources in the visual field can cause severe modifications in the perception of a scene an individual is watching. We investigated the effects of glare on brightness considering different surround conditions and transient and steady adaptation using a magnitude comparison paradigm with the method of constant stimuli. We analyze the results in terms of lightness constancy and we concluded that the brightness reduction produced by a glare source is achieved in two stages. The first one is retinal and local, and produces the strongest brightness reduction. The second one is posretinal and global, and is the responsible to restore the lightness constancy of the image.
