Lamotrigine protects CH-K1/A5 cells from cell death induced by serum deprivation and lithium.

We studied the neuroprotective action of lithium (Li) and lamotrogine (LTG) in cultured CHO-K1/A5 cells. Results from the present study indicate that the antiepileptic drug LTG has a robust protective effect on CHO-K1/A5 cell death induced by serum deprivation and Li in the culture medium. These data provide new avenues to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms of anticonvulsive drug action.
