Among the most relevant problems encountered when considering the consecution of a sustainable world are those involving energy and the built environment, their interrelationships and their impacts on the global ecosystem. This calls, among other strategies, for the implementation of graduate studies programs aimed at requalifying professionals involved in the production of the built environment, enabling then to tackle the urgent social, economic and environmental demands that sustainable development poses towards the future. Within this context, the Laboratorio de Ambiente Humano y Vivienda R + D unit belonging to the Instituto de Ciencias Humanas, Sociales y Ambientales (INCIHUSA ? CONICET) in association with the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN) have faced the unavoidable responsibility of contributing the required knowledge to begin to move towards that transformation, taking also into consideration the curricula limitations at the regional universities in their undergraduate programs. To this effect, the Masters Program on Sustainable Development of Human Habitat (Maestría en Desarrollo Sustentable del Hábitat Humano, MDSHH) was implemented in Mendoza, starting on August 15, 2003. Regular courses were finished in December 2004. From the 35 professional inscribed in the first cohort, as much as 28 will be starting their Master?s thesis during 2005. A second cohort is expected to start before the end of 2005.
