Resumen:
The foliar nutritional “Phosphites” could be a chemical alternative for integrated crop management. Hence, the aim of the present study was to know the effect of Potassium and Calcium Phosphite (KPhi and CaPhi) on the disease control, and to determine some biochemical, physiological and quality parameters associated to this effect. The treatment of seed piece immediately after cutting, with doses of 3, 4.5 and 6 lt/ha of KPhi and CaPhi, showed a decrease in emergence time, and the seedlings were higher and more vigorous than controls. The treatment on foliage was made with four or two applications with the same doses at fourth week after emergence every twenty days. After these treatments, a protection to late blight was observed until 14 days after application. In addition, an increase in the expression of some pathogenesis related protein was detected. Harvested tubers from treated plants were more resistant to late blight and also, to Fusarium eumartii. In addition, tuber size, fresh and dry weight, increased respect to those from non treated plants. Some of these results are preliminary, but show the first report of the promising effects of KPhi and CaPhi in disease resistance. So far, it is not clear which one of these Phosphites would be more efficient for crop management.
