Introduction: Mental disorders and those related to substance abuse are the leading cause of disability worldwide and account for 23% of years lived with disability. In Argentina 21% of young people and adults suffer from a mental disorder.Objectives: This paper seeks to analyze the impact of the Mental Health Law 26,657 on the actors who are (directly or indirectly) involved in its implementation.Methodology: A review of the related literature and interviews with key informants in the health system were performed.Results: People who require mental health services and those who should provide, regulate and finance them are affected by the sanction of the law. Although the main goal of the law is to improve their quality of life of patients, the coordination of services; the social security coverage for new needs and the adaptation of institutions to the rules, are not yet sufficient and jeopardize its compliance.
