Resumen:
In this paper we investigate the equity of access to the public healthcare system in the Province of Buenos Aires (Argentina). Through a quantitative-retrospective study, we analyze the inequalities in the distribution of the per capita total public health expenditure. This variable is used as a proxy for access to health care services. We find huge disparities in the levels of expenditure devoted to the population without health coverage. Moreover, those differences cannot be justified on the basis of different health needs, captured by infant mortality rates and the proportion of homes with unmet needs. Finally, we detect a positive correlation between the relative wealth of the municipalities and their per capita public health expenditure.
