Resumen:
The fissurellid genus Zeidora A. Adams, 1860 was frequently used to refer to small-size species, with posterior apex, internal septum and well-developed selenizone with anterior slit. Currently the genus appears represented by 13 species, most of them poorly-known and unfrequently found in museum collections: eight species described in the northern hemisphere, atCaribbean (Z. naufraga Watson, 1883; Z. bigelowi Pérez-Farfante, 1947; Z. neritica Espinosa, Ortea and Fernández-Garcés, 2004; and Z. milerai Espinosa, Ortea and Fernández-Garcés, 2004), Japan (Z. calceolina A. Adams, 1860; Z. reticulata A. Adams, 1862), Panamic (Z. flabellum (Dall, 1895)), and Red Sea (Z. nesta (Pilsbry, 1890); and five in the southern hemisphere at Easter Island (Z. bahamondei Rehder, 1980), Australia (Z. lodderae (Tate and May, 1900); Z. tasmanica (Beddome, 1883); and Z. legrandi Tate, 1894), and New Zealand (Z. maoria Powell, 1936). In the present study we introduce a new giant species from the Bellingshausen Sea, providing the first record for the genus in the Antarctic waters. The material reported here was collected during the BENTART Expedition (Spanish Antarctic Program) aboard the RV Hespérides, focused particularly on the study of the benthic fauna from the West Antarctica.
