Resumen:
ENDOTHELIAL PROGENITORS CELL IN AN EXPERIMENTAL MODEL OF ATHEROSCLEROSIS Endothelial dysfunction is a key event in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Growing evidence suggests that circulating EPCs are depleted in the presence of atherosclerosis risk factors. This study was performed to isolate and characterize bone-marrow EPC and circulating EPC from atherosclerosis-prone ApoE-/- mice. The expression of endothelial dysfunction markers such as VCAm-1 and MMP-9 was also measured. EPC from heparin blood samples and from ficoll treated- bone marrow, were stained with FITC-conjugated CD34 and phycoerythrin-conjugated VEGFR-2 antibodies (BD) and analyzed by flow cytometry. Circulating CD34+/VEGFR2+ differed numerically between ApoE-/- mice and control C57 BL-6 mice (WT) (0,021% ± 0,007 vs. 0,063%±0,006 P
