Resumen:
Trace elements are abundant in soils and water in the earth. The principal characteristic of trace elements is its very low concentration. Previous evidence from our laboratory showed that in one geographical region of La Rioja, Argentine, rich in trace elements, the phenotypic expression of the HSR gene (Hand Skill Relative) was altered with modified methylation patterns in the DNA in blood of school children. Using an experimental model in rats, administration of ZnTe in the same amounts that found in La Rioja, alteration of simil-characteristic of laterization were found also in the trace elements treated animals. Results suggest that similar brain mechanisms are affected in humans and animals, putting into perspective an epigenetic mode of action of trace elements in the organisms.
