A newsol–gelsynthesisprocedureofstablecalciumcoppertitanate(CaCu3Ti4O12—CCTO)precursor sols forthefabricationofporousfilmswasdeveloped.Thecompositionofthesolwasselectedinorder to avoidtheprecipitationofundesiredphases;ethanolwasusedassolvent,aceticacidasmodifierand poly(ethyleneglycol)asalinkeragent.Filmsdepositedbyspin-coatingontooxidizedsiliconsubstrates were annealedat700 1C. Themainphasepresentinthesamples,asdetectedbyX-raydiffractionand Ramanspectroscopy,wasCaCu3Ti4O12. Scanningelectronmicroscopyanalysisshowedthatmesoporous structures,withthicknessesbetween200and400nm,weredevelopedasaresultoftheprocessing conditions.Thefilmsweretestedregardingtheirsensibilitytowardsoxygenandnitrogenat atmosphericpressureusingworkingtemperaturesfrom200to290 1C.
