Resumen:
This paper contributes to the literature assessing how scientific research can improve its contribution to societal needs. We focus the analysis on Chagas, a neglected tropical disease. We identify perceived demand for Chagas research using secondary evidence and interviews in Argentina, while research supply is studied through a bibliometric analysis. We find three areas of research demands: vector control, early diagnosis and reduction in congenital transmission, and social science research to improve policy outcomes. While vector control seems to be attended by local research, severe deficits turn up in the social sciences locally and globally. There is increasing attention in diagnosis and congenital transmission globally, with international cooperation as an important driver, although Argentina seems not to be intensively participating in these networks. We claim that different policy recommendations apply for each area to improve the alignment between research supply and demand.Publicado como: Arza, V, y Colonna, A. ?Exploring the links between research demand and supply: The case of Chagas?
