Resumen:
Open Source Pharma (OSP) stands out as an innovative way to re-alignpharmaceutical research with health needs, in particular to find solutions topoverty-related infectious diseases. OSP means open collaboration, to openaccess to data and other results, and open licenses for sharing and distributionof research outcomes. This paper provides an exploratory analysis of OSPcurrent practices and business models, based on literature review and one indepth interview with Matthew Todd, leader of the Open Source Malaria project. We claim that OSP may become a working and more promising alternative to traditional pharma as long as it is supported by public policy so as to fully emerge and visibilise its benefits.
