Resumen:
The aim of the article is to explore the notion of ´defeat´ regarding the so-called last left-wing populist tide in Latin America. To achieve this goal the author plays with the double sense the word ´defeat´ has in English -a) behind in place or order and b) concerning about something-, to think about the ?limitations? of populism. In this way four main aspects reviewed: 1) the category of demand, 2) The ineradicable gap between the moment of the populist irruption and the moment of the institutionalization, 3) The large extension of the chain of equivalence that composes populism and 4) The loss of enthusiasm.
