In this study we analysed the composition and structure in biofilms exposed to oil and sewage pollution. Species diversity, evenness, pollution tolerance, taxonomic groups and diatoms indices were used as descriptors. Physicals and chemicals variables were measured in field and water samples were taken for nutrients, DBO5 and DQO analysis. The biofilms on artificial and natural substrates showed water quality changes. The community structure and species tolerance to eutrophication and organic pollution were the better descriptors. Key words: biofilm, bioindicator, oil pollution, sewage pollution, Río de la Plata river
