The physical, chemical and biological alterations caused by man-induced disturbances provoke changes in fish community structure. We analyzed fish distribution and community attributes that change with the water quality degradation in the three main rivers that conform the Suquía Basin, located in the central part of Argentina. These rivers are suffering an increasing environmental impact due to alterations of the water quality. The degradation of the lotic systems caused a simplification of fish communities. They present low species richness and few dominant species, which tolerate the adverse conditions that characterize the most degraded zones.
