Fieldtrip guide:From the Cretaceous Rift to the Paleogene-present day foreland basins of nw Argentina: Tectonics and sedimentation

The purpose of this field excursion is to show the evolution of fluvial systems in thecontext of an active orogenic basin over the last 40 million years. The tectonism played akey role in the configuration of basin and its change trough time, such as regional and local paleo-slopes, source areas and atmospheric circulation (generating dryer or wetter conditions). The first part of this guidebook presents a description of the physiographic characteristic of the region that we will be passing through the trip and a brief overview of the geology of the sedimentary basins. The second part provides details descriptions of the specific localities that we will visit.
