Lifting of basement blocks and flexuralsubsidence in the forelandbasin of the Valles Calchaquies-NOA. Thecontinental sedimentary succession of the Payogastilla Group (middle Eocene-lower Pleistocene) represents the in- filling of the forelandbasin, related to the subduction of the Nazca Plate below the SouthAmerica Plate. Previousstudies indicate that theEocene and Oligocene deformation events did not generate high relief in theEastern Cordi- llera. However, the existenceof an axial 2000 m thick sedimentary infilling depocenter ofsedimentary deposits sin - ce the middle Eocene to middle Miocene includinga good preservedeolian succession, would indicate that the ba- sin was formed by local flexuralsubsidence linked to the basementblocks uplift. The relief could be related to the fault displacement involved the basement that will be modeledusing structural and thermochronology data in the future.
