When TEI verse becomes linked open data

One of the main goals of the Text Encoding Initiative as a standard system for encoding texts is the possibility to provide interoperability between data. However, interoperability may not always lead to accurate results, due to the different interpretation and use of the TEI P5 tags. Although there are several concepts that can be easily identified in many Digital Humanities projects that use TEI tags, as their referents are pretty clear and recognizable (, ), there are some others which sometimes may experience multiple interpretations due to the content of the attributes that modify them. The use of TEI verse module tags can sometimes turn out to be quite controversial, especially in its sections devoted to metrics. It must be said that there are not many projects using the full set of its tags (most projects use and and perhaps but do not add many more metrical and rhythmic information), and some of them complete the information related to specific kind of rhythms and stanzas using attributes and new customized tags. This paper presents a model to link poetry projects developed with TEI tags. It consists of a theoretical schema of linked data whose entities are extracted from the different tags used by the project ReMeTCa, www.remetca.uned.es, the Spanish Digital Repertoire on Medieval Poetry, conceived on a TEI basis. Our contribution wants to show how each tag of the xsd scheme can be translated and transposed into RDF (following standards like Dublin Core for elements of the such as or ) and published later via linked data in order to create a macro-scheme in which other poetical repertoires can find many of their terms identified with an existing category, equivalent both to a TEI tag and to a URI.
