Resumen:
The Salvia hispanica L., whose common nameis Chia, is an annual herbaceous plantbelonging to the Lamiaceae family.Chia seeds have been investigated andrecommended due to their high levels ofessential fatty acids with the highestproportion of omega-3 fatty acid (w3-FA)compared to other natural sources known todate. It is well known that the consumption ofw 3-FA can slow or stop the growth of cancercells. This work contains the preliminaryresults of our study about the effects of Chiaoil (ChO) in a murine mammary glandadenocarcinoma by micro-X ray fluorescence(micro-XRF) analysis. The histological andmultielemental analysis by micro-XRF hasbeen combined to infer information about themechanisms related with the anti-tumorigenicactions of w3-FA.The objective of this work is to map thespatial distribution and quantification ofcertain chemical elements in mammary glandtumor samples inoculated in mice thatpresented a special diet with Chia andcompare it with the control samples. It willalso identify chemical elements that presentvariations and that would behave asbiomarkers and that allow elucidating therole of omega 3 fatty acids in metabolicprocesses in relation to cancer.
