Resumen:
Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are a useful tool for remote sensing of environmental and agricultural variables. ZigBee is a protocol developed for very low-cost and very low-power-consumption WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Networks). Communication between nodes is affected by the following working conditions: distance between nodes, antenna position, height from the ground, presence of obstacles (plants, trees, land slopes, etc). Some of these effects can create conditions of no line of sight (NLOS). This paper studies the effect of these work conditions over the maximum distance at which nodes can communicate, in WSN for environmental monitoring based on ZigBee (e. g. agricultural variables).
