Resumen:
: In the design of waste repositories it is required that the liners possess low hydraulic conductivity, low diffusion and high retention capacity of contaminants, stability with the time and ductility to sustain differential settlements. The design of barriers on a collapsible loessial deposit is discussed in this work. Compacted samples of loess were tested in the laboratory to determine their behavior when saturated and permeated with chemicals of high concentration. Thus, the long term stability of compacted loess could be evaluated. The inclusion of geosynthetics is recommended in the construction of liners with compacted loess. Some fundamental topics and guidelines related to the design of bottom liners by means of combined geosynthetics and compacted loess are presented.
