This book forms part of the WAC (World Archaeological Congress) One World Archaeology series and gathers 10 papers written by specialists in rock art, portable art and body art from the Americas, Europe and Oceania. Several of these were presented at WAC5 at Washington DC in 2003. The book´s topic is focused on the uses of art as in the creation and reproduction of social identity, and it proposes and assesses concepts and methods to tackle this topic from the archaeological and ethnographic records.
