Resumen:
This review covers the advances of rock art research in Argentina from 2000 to 2004; it includes information published in more than 50 publications, about new discoveries, analyses and interpretations, and an overview of the management and conservation processes carried out in the country during the reported period. The archaeology of rock art has a long academic tradition in Argentina; up to 1988 the number of published sites was more than 1500 (Renard de Coquet 1988), but the estimated number of rock art sites that have been discovered and published up to the moment is around 3000 (www.inapl.gov.ar/invest/arterup.htm). The review has been structured following a division of the country in broad areas which are subdivided into regions; the text proceeds from North to South. A final section summarises details about the archaeological congresses held in the country in which rock art papers have been presented.
