Resumen:
Setaria (Poaceae: Panicoideae: Paniceae) in the Old World is revised, providing necessary identification tools for a group that includes many important forage grasses and several widespread weeds. Sixty six species are treated in this work, in which macromorphological characters are considered. Setaria includes annual and perennial species of open and dry places, with membranous-ciliate ligules, leaves lanceolate to filiform, inflorescences lax to spiciform, spikelets solitary or paired and with one to several setae below; spikelets obovoid to long ellipsoid, glabrous, with the lower glume usually 1/2 or less the length of the spikelet, upper glume and lower lemma subequal, lower palea as long as the upper anthecium to reduced or absent, lower flower absent or present, when present staminate, upper anthecium indurate, smooth to transversely rugose, and a basic chromosome number of x = 9. A key to the species, synonymy, typifications, morphological descriptions of the 65 species, notes, and illustrations are presented.
