Resumen:
Chlorination in the presence of carbon is considered one of the most attractive methods to separate metals, as chlorides, from low grade polymetallic minerals. In this work the carbochlorination of iron-titanium oxides mixtures was studied at 750 and 850 C unsing thermogravimetry, X-ray diffraction and neutron activation analysis. The effect of kinetic variables, such as temperature, chlorine flow rate and mass transfer into the solid bed on the iron removal was investigated. It was found that iron quantitative separation occurs at low temperature and flow rate. Different reaction stages which were strongly dependent on expeirmental conditions were observed.
