Chronicconsumptionofethanolhasa damagingeffectinvariousorgansand metabolic functions,includingliver,kid- ney,heart,pancreas,andbrain(Sunand Sun,2001;BezerraRdeetal.,2005). Additionally,ithasbeenshownthatboth the acuteandchronicethanolintake inducealterationinvoltage-gatedchan- nels causingbehavioralandelectrophysio- logicalchangesinthebrain(Little, 1999). Inthelastfewyears,theeffectofethanol in theelectrophysiologicalphenomenon, knownascorticalspreadingdepression (CSD), hasbeenwidelyassessed(Sonn and Mayevsky,2001;BezerraRdeetal., 2005; Abadie-Guedesetal.,2008) asan importantmodeltopredictthedamaging effects ofethanolinbothyoungandaged brains.
