Resumen:
We performed experiments to verify whether aged CuAlNi shape-memory alloys can be completely reverted to their original states. Results are unexpected and suggest that even though the shape-memory behavior can be restored by annealing, the microstructure is not completely restored to its initial condition. Results suggest that aging times and precipitate size are directly related, as expected. Nevertheless, a high density of dislocations was observed in the samples after annealing, which is both intriguing and unexpected. This result suggests that, even though the original macroscopic shape-memory behavior was restored, annealing was unable to fully restore the microstructure of the alloy to its initial condition.
