  Resumen: Me propongo aquí esbozar aspectos centrales de la teoría política de Platón en la República vinculados con su noción de la racionalidad. Trataré dos órdenes de cuestiones. Por un lado, intentaré explicar la contribución efectiva que hace el conocimiento del bien a la institución del Estado; allí perfilaré la posición platónica sobre la relación entre virtudes y vida política, educación y poder, individuo y Estado. Me referiré también a temas como la legitimidad del poder y el acuerdo político, así como a las fuentes de la normatividad. Por otro lado, consideraré aspectos de las tesis políticas de Platón que se relacionan positivamente con algunas críticas a los límites y problemas del proyecto político moderno así como del liberalismo contemporáneo.   Abstract:    I attempt to sketch important aspects of Plato’s political theory related to his concept of rationality in the Republic. I will discuss two issues on this matter. Firstly, I will explain how the knowledge of the idea of the good contributes to State, placing in this context Plato’s view on the relationship between virtues and political life, education and power, individuals and State. Here, I will also refer to topics as legitimacy of power, political agreement as well as sources of normativity. Secondly, I will consider Plato’s political thought in relation to certain challenges to limits and problems of modern politics and contemporary liberalism as well.
