Resumen:
A review of the marine interval of the Tupe Formation at La Delfina Creek in the west flank of the Perico Hill, San Juan province, Argentina, is provided. Paleogeographically, this interval represents the easternmost point of the Panthalassan marine ingression into the western Paganzo Basin. The stratigraphical section of the Tupe Formation at La Delfina Creek is the para-stratotypes of the Tivertonia jachalensis-Streptorhynchus inaequiornatus Biozone, recently considered to be early Permian. The new collections of marine invertebrates from this section provide new records of brachiopods (Costatumulus sp., Orbiculoidea sp., Trigonotreta pericoensis (Leanza), Kochiproductus sp., Streptorhynchus inaequiornatus Leanza, Septosyringothyris sp. and scarce Tivertonia jachalensis (Amos)) and bivalves (Heteropecten? sp., Myofossa sp., Sanguinolites? sp. and Anomalodesmata ind.) for the Tivertonia jachalensis-Streptorhynchus inaequiornatus Biozone in this locality. New data on the biostratigraphical and paleogeographical implications of this fauna are also discussed.
