Resumen:
A small fauna of inarticulate brachiopods from the lower beds of the Santa Elena Formation of the
Calingasta-Uspallata Basin, Mendoza Province, Argentina is documented. The new genus Argentiella,
type species Argentiella stappenbecki sp. nov., is described. Orbiculoidea sp. is also documented from
the same fauna. The fauna occurs in beds which indicate an initial transgressive event overlying fresh
water, plant bearing strata.
