Resumen:
Brain cortical mitochondrial respiration and mitochondrial nitric oxide
synthase (mtNOS) activity were analyzed as a function of the age by
using 1, 3, 7 and 14 months old rats. Westernblotting analysis was also
conducted in order to analyze protein NOS expression in brain cortical
mitochondrial tissue. The results showed that mitochondrial state 3
respiration was higher in 14 months old animals as compared with 1
months aged rats and that the amount of NO production was higher in
1 months aged animals as compared with 14 months old rats. These
results of NO production were in agreement with the protein expression
analysis of mtNOS obtained. We can conclude that during rat growth
mitochondrial respiratory function could be modulated by the amount
of NO produced by mtNOS, and that mtNOS protein expression showed
a higher expression-pattern in 1 month aged animals as compared with
14 months aged rats in agreement with the results of mtNOS activity.
