Resumen:
The recent approval of the Argentine Regulation ofWooden Structures CIRSOC 601 (2016) hasconsolidated the use structural timber in our country. However, it is necessary that the designer has athorough knowledge of their mechanical behaviour, soit is essential to thoroughly review the availableinformation on the physical and mechanicalcharacteristics of the forest species1. In Argentina, theEuropean guidelines have been adopted for thedetermination of the mechanical properties ofstructural sawn timber. The fundamental properties tobe determined for each combination species /provenance are density, bending strength andmodulus, being able to derive from them the remainingmechanical properties required in the design1. Inparticular, the IRAM 9662-3 (2015) standard2 providesthe characteristic values of the bending strength (fm)and tensile strength parallel to the grain (ft) of resinouspine cultivated in Argentina. fm value was determinedexperimentally and ft was estimated equal to 60% ofthe previous one, in agreement with the Europeanexperience. This guideline also considers a singlemodulus of elasticity, which was obtainedexperimentally from the bending test, being usefulboth for the design of elements subject to flexural ortensile parallel to the grain1,3,4.The goal of this work is to verify experimentally thefulfilment of both criteria adopted for the resinous pinecultivated in the northeast of Argentina.
