Resumen:
Thermoset foams are materials extensively used by several industries, i.e., automotive, furniture, etc. They have a significant mechanical resistance combined with a low density. Polyurethane and phenolic thermoset foams have been the more widely studied in the literature. Nowadays, epoxy foams are being developed due to their good chemical and thermal stability. The foaming process with physical blowing agents (hexane, cyclohexane)has been reported in the literature. Other alternative that can be used is a chemical foaming agent, which releases a gas during the crosslinking reaction. Some technical papers of Ciba-Geigy Company have proved that this foam can be used as matrixes of composite materials. The aim of this study is to find the optimum composition of the epoxy-amine reactive system and the characterization of the foam with different amount of chemical blowing agent.
