Matrix Effect on Bimetallic Zeolite Catalysts for SCR of NOx

The nature of the species present when Co and Pt are exchanged in mordenite, ferrierite, ZSM5 and Y-zeolite is studied. The three first solids were active for the selective catalytic reduction of NOx with methane after being reduced in H2 at 350ºC for 1 h. Through the use of the TPR; FTIR and XPS techniques it was determined that in reduced and used samples co-exist Co(0) and Pt(0), Co(2+) and Pt(2+) particles at exchange positions and acidic OH. The concurrence of all these species would be responsible for the high activity and selectivity.of bimetallic solids.
